Issues: Senior Dignity

Download my stand on Senior Dignity.

Issues effecting our 50+ population are near and dear to my heart. For the past two years I worked on behalf of Missouri’s seniors for AARP Missouri. I collaborated with AARP members, volunteers, state legislators and other advocates to address the needs and challenges faced as we age. The baby-boom generation is now eligible for Social Security - state policies and resources must be able to accommodate the unmet needs and demands to help our parents, grandparents, and ourselves remain in our communities and the place we choose to call home.

Having recently lost my grandmother, first to Alzheimer’s disease and then to her passing, I have witnessed, along with my family, the draining emotional and financial challenges that come from aging. I believe it is our obligation to our aging generations that we do everything possible to allow them to age with dignity in their own communities.

Long Term Care Reform is the first step to ensuring Missourians can age with dignity and independence. I will work to ensure access, accountability, and affordability in a long term care system that is ripe with choice. People need to know they have options that will help them remain in their home or the most home-like setting with the ability to have the services come to them for as long as possible. A strong and efficient system will provide the funds and incentives to private providers and non-profits to serve this ever growing niche. My commitment to seniors is unwavering. Once elected, I will continue to be an informed voice on their behalf in Jefferson City. I cherish the seniors in my neighborhood and I will work tirelessly to help keep them healthy and in our community, where they want to be.
